VNX5400 Disk Processor Enclosure helps customers to keep pace with their growing businesses by expanding their system storage capacity. The VNX5400's intuitive design easily allows you to add new disks that can be used to expand existing storage pools or create new pools.
  • 15 x 3.5", 25 x 2.5", 60 x 3.5" and 120 x 2.5"
  • 3.5" & 2.5" SAS / NL-SAS / Flash
  • RAID 0 / 1 / 3 / 5 / 6 / 10
  • Fibre Channel (FC)
  • 250 Max Disk Drives

EMC VNX5400 series unified storage system delivers uncompromising scalability and flexibility for mid-tier applications while providing market-leading simplicity and efficiency to minimize total cost of ownership. Using a modular architecture, the VNX5400 integrates hardware components for block, file and object with concurrent support for native NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel and FCoE protocols. The VNX5400 delivers file (NAS) functionality via 1-4 Data Movers and block (iSCSI, FCoE, and FC) storage via dual Storage Processors leveraging full 6Gbps SAS disk drive topology.

DELL EMC VNX5400 Base Knowledge .
One CPU module with an Intel Xeon 4-core 1.8-GHz processor facilitating Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT). Eight Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) slots supporting up to 16 GB of SDRAM per CPU module or SP using 4 or 8 GB DIMMs

Form Factor: 3U – 9U
Chassis: 25 (2.5”)
Standby Power Supply: 3 Power Types
Disk Array Enclosures (DAE): 4 Different DAE types
Max Drives: 250
Drives Supported: Serial attached-SCSI (SAS) and Flash
I/O Supported:
Support for File (CIFS and NFS), Block (FC, iSCSI & FCoE) and Object

Storage Processor I/O Supported:
Four PCI Gen 3 x8 I/O module slots (A1 – A4 and B1 – B4) featuring the following SP I/O module types:

  • Four-port 8-Gb/s FC optical (running at 2, 4, or 8 Gb/s)
  • Four-port 16-Gb/s FC optical (running at 4, 8, or 16 Gb/s)
  • Four-port 1-Gb/s Base-T iSCSI I/O module
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax5
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s RJ45 Base-T iSCSI/IP
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

Storage Processor Power Supply:
Storage processor power supply types — Three SP power supply modules are supported in the VNX5400 storage system. They are:

  • AC Power supply; 200-240 V
  • AC Power supply; 100-240 V
  • DC Power supply

Data Movers Enclosure (DME):
One CPU module consisting of one Intel Xeon 4-core 2.13-GHz processor. The CPU modules in the DME contain the power, fault, and unsafe-to-remove LEDs. Six DDR3 synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) slots support up to 6 GB per CPU module using 2 or 4 GB DIMMs.
Each Data Mover has 4 I/O slots with the first one being a Four Port 8GbE Fibre and the other three can be any combination of the following.

  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax;
  • Four-port 1-Gb/s copper;
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s RJ45 Base-T iSCSI/IP;

Control Station (CS):
One to two 1U Control Stations supported in a File or Unified Configuration.
On the front, viewing from left to right, the File/Unified VNX5400 platform 1U Control Station includes the following components:

  • One DVD-ROM drive
  • Two USB 2.0 connectors (not used)
  • Front control panel with various buttons and status LEDs
  • Four hot-swappable SATA hard drive bays

Disk Array Enclosure (DAE)
The number of DAEs and the disks supported by the VNX5400 platform is variable depending on the type of DAE. Typically, the VNX5400 platform supports up to nine 2U, 25 (2.5-inch) DAEs (for a total of 225, 2.5-inch disk drives), up to fifteen 3U, 15 (2.5- or 3.5-inch) DAEs (for a total of 225, 2.5- or 3.5-inch disk drives), up to one, 3U, 120 (3.5-inch) DAE (for a total of 120, 2.5-inch disk drives), or up to three 4U, 60 (2.5- or 3.5-inch) DAEs (for a total of 180, 2.5- or 3.5-inch disk drives).
The 3U, 120 and 4U, 60 DAEs have separate power supplies and cooling modules (fans). In a 4U, 60 DAE, the primary functionality of an LCC is to be a SAS expander as well as to provide enclosure services to all the disk drives (60 in all).
